DAN DOMINGUEZ, M.S. L.Ac

CLINIC DIRECTOR /

BUFFALO BILLS & BUFFALO SABRES TEAM ACUPUNCTURIST

Dan Dominguez is a distinctive force of nature for Buffalo’s orthopedic and athletic scene. A long history and devotion to sports medicine has helped Dan hone his craft of acupuncture and motor point therapy and provide the most specialized care for his professional and amateur athletes.

At BOSA, Dan uses his own methodology and approach towards orthopedic conditions calling on his expertise in neurofunctional acupuncture, trigger point therapy, dry needling, and distal acupuncture to create dynamic, effective treatment plans for his patients. He proudly serves the Buffalo Bills, as well as many of Buffalo’s local and visiting athletes.

EARLY SETBACKS

As a former athlete himself, Dan understands the importance of health and maintenance when it comes to performance. He also understands the setbacks; as a senior at Saginaw Valley State University, Dan suffered a broken leg which ended his college football career. Searching for a reliable way to heal his injury, Dan turned to his uncle Ric Warren, a New York acupuncturist, for regular treatment. Acupuncture proved to be irreplaceable in his healing: “I attribute the speed and consistency of my healing to this.”

NEW SEASON

That experience left a mark on Dan, and he realized how valuable this therapy could be for other athletes. After completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science and Strength and Conditioning, he turned his focus fully to acupuncture at the Finger Lakes School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. While enrolled, Dan continued to focus on orthopedics and lead the school’s Sports Medicine Club, engaging fellow students in the treatment of both chronic and acute injuries.

BIG PLAYS

Since graduating, Dan has studied with some of the foremost experts in the sports acupuncture field and has had the honor to work with athletes from around the world. In 2015, Dan became the first acupuncturist to join the University of Rochester Orthopedic Department. His experience here provided priceless insight and opportunities to work hand-in-hand with orthopedic physicians, physician assistants, physical therapists, and strength training staff and instilled an integrative approach to patient treatment at the U of R.

After developing his own treatment methodology and mastering the science of motor point acupuncture, Dan began assisting and co-hosting workshops for other healthcare practitioners in New York, Ireland, and Australia. He leads his own sports medicine training courses and thrives on sharing his passion and knowledge of orthopedics with other acupuncturists.

TOUCHDOWN IN BUFFALO

After Dan moved to Buffalo, he quickly grew popular with local athletes and the CrossFit world. Shortly after opening his Buffalo clinic, Dan began collaborating with the Buffalo Bills football team to help players heal, recover, and perform their very best. He continues to teach other aspiring sports acupuncturists the in-and-outs of effective injury healing and prevention, both in the US and internationally. Dan is passionate about effective and no-nonsense approaches to orthopedic conditions and is proud to serve Western New York’s inspiring athletes.

Suzy Wilson is a talented and passionate massage therapist, bringing a new level of skilled modalities to athletes and highly active clients to BOSA with her knowledge of various modalities, pain management and performance enhancement techniques.

HAIL MARY

Like many proponents of holistic wellness, Suzy was introduced to natural healing through injuries of her own sustained by an active lifestyle.

The gift of pain: Suzy can take her personal experiences with her pains & injuries and translates it into her bodywork. She is able to understand and connect to the clients when they explain their chief complaints, to be able to execute the proper personalized treatment. After her struggles dealing with her own injuries that negatively impacted the quality of her life, Suzy knew it was time to take action. Pain is a great motivator to kickstart one’s jounrey to wellness and recovery.

After researching all her options, Suzy decided to take a chance on alternative therapies. She wanted to heal her body in the most natural way and avoid the setbacks and side effects of more invasive treatments.

Suzy began regular holistic treatments to focus on healing her body. Fortunately, it all paid off – Suzy’s injuries healed successfully with the power of massage and other holistic therapies.

ON DECK

After experiencing amazing results with the help of holistic medicine, Suzy decided to pursue a new life in holistic wellness & healthcare. One of the most influential modalities that helped Suzy overcome her injuries was consistent focused massage she received from highly qualified therapists. This experience inspired Suzy to move in a new direction. She would return to school, study massage, and pursue her new passion.

With a steady background in health, fitness and wellness from her previous Exercise Science degree (University of Buffalo), Suzy was well-equipped to take on massage with a deep understanding of the human body, athletics, and pain management.

EYE ON THE BALL

Suzy has now been a highly skilled licensed massage therapist since 2005. From helping clients relax in high end wellness spas to rehabilitating athletes in fitness facilities, Suzy has developed unique therapeutic methods for treating all types of issues and injuries for athletes & clients alike.

Now, as part of the results driven BOSA team, Suzy is excited about helping athletes & clients to minimize pain, prevent injuries, perform better than ever & improve their overall ability to recover. She hopes not to just help reduce pain in her clients, but to teach them self-preservation through maintenance and preventative measures and substantially improve their quality of life. Her main focus is keeping athletes & clients healthy and happy so that they can enjoy their active lifestyle for years to come.

“I truly believe that health is wealth! Wellness & self-care is not a luxury but rather a necessity for optimal healing & to sustainably live a healthy, quality lifestyle. I deeply believe in sharing my expertise and knowledge to provide you the best care with integrity and compassion. I look forward to start helping you on your own journey to health and wellness!”

KAYLA WOODS, MS, L.Ac

NYS LICENSED ACUPUNCTURIST

KAYLA WOODS, MS, L.Ac

NYS LICENSED ACUPUNCTURIST

Kayla Woods is an acupuncturist and sports medicine specialist. Beyond helping you perform at your best, she can also help set you up for a lifetime of wellness with the power of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE

Kayla Woods knows what it’s like to play hard – and recover harder. She spent her high school and undergraduate years as an athlete in both soccer and whitewater sports. During these years, she was no stranger to injury. She suffered from multiple injuries, but thankfully found the help she needed from physical therapists. Her path to recovery introduced her to the field of sports medicine and it became an instant interest. She decided this was the career path for her.

MATCH PLAY

Kayla started her sports medicine training at Morrisville State University of New York (SUNY) with a focus on massage therapy. During her time studying massage at SUNY Morrisville, she also discovered the perfect match for massage: acupuncture and herbal medicine (Traditional Chinese Medicine).

After experiencing the benefits of acupuncture herself, Kayla decided to further her education at the Finger Lakes School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Here (as well as in China at the Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine), she completed advanced techniques in acupuncture, gua sha, cupping, and Chinese medical massage (tuina).

A HAT TRICK FOR HEALING

From prepping athletes before and after competition, to helping actors get ready for long days of filming, to treating a wide range of mental and physical health issues, Kayla’s passion is helping others thrive.

Her strategy? Treating the body as a whole entity. Kayla uses a trifecta of healing modalities (acupuncture, herbal medicine, and massage) to address the root causes of sports medicine complaints, as well as stress and anxiety, neurological disorders such as Bell’s palsy, digestive issues, and reproductive health.

Kayla recently moved from her home in sunny South Carolina to make a new home here in Buffalo to pursue her love for orthopedics and sport’s acupuncture. We’re proud to welcome Kayla to the BOSA team!
